Train in the Good Lives Model
Recommandations du board international à propos de la formation et de la supervision officielles.
The Good Lives Model (GLM) is described in books, articles, chapters, and trainings that are available to the public. Practitioners therefore do not need a license to use it. However, it is strongly recommended that anyone who intends to use the GLM receive training and supervision/consultation from people listed as contacts at this website. An accreditation process for practitioners is in development.
The core GLM team is aware that there are some individuals who present themselves as GLM trainers and offer trainings. While there is no law preventing this, only the people listed at this website are qualified to provide GLM training. It is important that those seeking training be aware of this, as improperly trained and supervised practitioners can easily misapply the GLM, potentially causing harm to clients and the model itself. In fact, these points are made in recent writings on the GLM (e.g., Ward et al., 2025: Prescott & Willis, 2021).

Why train in the good lives model ?
what the glm changes in your practice
Official GLM training enables practitioners to become a “GLM Practitioner” in judicial, social, educational or mental health settings — within an integrated framework perspective (GLM framework).
A framework that connects risk and life planning
The GLM integrates risk factors into a clinical formulation that helps understand how offending behaviours have attempted to meet fundamental needs. The focus shifts from a control-based logic to structured rehabilitation.
A meta-framework compatible with your practices
The GLM integrates with the approaches you already use — RNR, CBT, EMDR, motivational interviewing — around a shared language: primary goods, good lives plan, desistance pathway.
A driver of motivation and therapeutic alliance
By starting from the Goods the person considers important, the GLM strengthens engagement in the work and facilitates the building of credible short and long-term life plans.
Everyday practice and case formulation
Case formulation, co-construction of a support plan, work on concrete future scenarios, warning signs and available resources — in individual or group settings, in community or custodial environments.
